Hazardous Material:

How to reduce and help the accumulation of Household Hazardous Waste:

  • Only buy what you can use.

  • Share leftovers with friends, neighbors, etc.

  • Recycle used motor oil, antifreeze, car batteries, and paints.

  • Buy safer alternatives to hazardous household products.

  • Follow label directions.

  • Store unused products in a safe, dry, cool place.

What is household hazardous waste?

Certain materials are classified as hazardous waste.  These include materials such as motor oil, paints, pesticides, household chemicals, and fertilizers.  These materials areHHW6 extremely dangerous to the environment and cannot be placed in your regular trash receptacles.  For information on disposing of  these materials call Virgin Valley Disposal at 702-346-5396.

Even though many of these products can be purchased at  your local store, they can still be harmful to you, your family and the environment.  To identify these products, check the label on the container for keywords, such as…


 DANGER, WARNING, CORROSIVE, FLAMMABLE, EXPLOSIVE, OXIDIZER, IRRITANT, HARMFUL, FATAL, POISON.


Disposing of household hazardous waste in your trash or dumping them down the storm drains or into sewer and septic systems can be dangerous to your health, the health of others and the environment.  Thrown into your trash can, they can pose a threat to refuse collectors and workers.  Dumped onto the ground or street, these type of materials can be drank by pets which can lead to death or serious harm.

Transportation Guidelines:

  • Do not mix household hazardous waste.

  • Containers must be closed, labeled, and not leaking.

  • A maximum of 55 gallons of motor oil may be transported per vehicle per visit.

** Residential only, as a general rule, holidays push our pickup schedules back one day.  For example, if a holiday falls on a Monday, Monday’s routes will be run on Tuesday, Tuesday’s routes on Wednesday, and so forth through Friday.

Thanksgiving 2015

Notice of Residential Route Service Schedule Change.  Thanksgiving Day – November 26, 2015

Residential Trash service (90 gallon containers) will remain the same on Monday November 23rd, Tuesday November 24th, and Wednesday November 25th.  But Thursday November 26th (Thanksgiving Day), NO SERVICE, please have your cans out on Friday November 27th by 6:00 am.  We are sorry for any inconvenience that these changes might bring and thank you for your understanding.

This schedule change does not affect commercial services.


Christmas 2015 and New Years Day 2016

For Christmas 2015, we will NOT be changing the residential route schedule.  Residential Trash service (90 gallon containers) will remain the same on Monday December 21st, Tuesday December 22nd, Wednesday December 23rd and Thursday December 24th.  Again NO changes for Christmas or the New Year.
