Certain materials are classified as Household Hazardous Waste.  These include materials such as motor oil, paints, pesticides, household chemicals, and fertilizers.  These materials are extremely dangerous to the environment and cannot be placed in your regular trash receptacles.  For information on disposing of these materials please call Virgin Valley Disposal.

Even though many of these products can be purchased at your local store, they can still be harmful to you, your family and the environment.  To identify these products, check the label on the container for keywords, such as…

It is illegal to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste in your garbage or recycling receptical.  It must be taken to a licensed facility for treatment and recycling.

Disposing of Household Hazardous Waste in your trash or dumping them down the storm drains or into sewer and septic systems can be dangerous to your health, the health of others and the environment.  Thrown into your trash receptical, can pose a threat to refuse collectors, workers and others.  Dumped onto the ground or street, these type of materials can be consumed by pets which can lead to death or serious harm.

• Residents can take their Household Hazardous Waste to the City of Mesquites Landfill.  Please notify the gatekeeper of your waste and it will be stored in a secured area until it can be transported to a licensed facility.  This service is free for residential customers on the 90 gallon system!!!
• Commercial customers need to take their Household Hazardous Waste to any licensed facility.  

• Only buy what you can use.
• Share leftovers with friends, neighbors, etc.
• Recycle used motor oil, transmission oil, antifreeze, car batteries, and paints.
• Buy safer alternatives to HouseholdHazardous Waste products.
• Follow label directions.
• Store unused products in a safe, dry, cool place.
